Quick Description:
Automatically perform file edits!

Description:

------------------------------------------------

Mod Features
  • Easily and automatically perform file edits based on an instructions file that mod developers can package with their mods.
  • If the code to search for appears more than once in the file, all instances will be displayed with their line numbers so you can match the correct place.
  • If the code does not appear in the file, the system will still give you the instructions to manually perform the edit.
  • Backups of each edited file are made automatically. Note that if there are two edits to the same file being performed at the same time, only one backup will be made to preserve space.
  • Backups can easily be restored and backup files and folders can be removed to clear up space.
  • Comes with developer utilities to make a mod developer's life easier when creating an XML file for this mod.
  • Version checking for each mod installed as well as version checking and informational news for the File Editor.
  • If a mod does not have the XML file for the File Editor, you can still perform its edits automatically via the Custom Edit page.
Information
  • This mod now works completely on both PHP 4 and 5, including the ability to perform edits and access backup files!
  • Please check the CHMOD settings for the proper values needed to make this mod work.
  • If for whatever reason with the correct CHMOD settings the files are still not readable/writable, then simply manually perform the edits that are displayed in the system.
Mod Developers! It's time to begin making XML files for your mods if you wish to use this system. The structure of the XML files will remain mostly if not entirely the same until the first official release so you don't need to worry about having to change it in the near future. Also, don't forget about the Developer Utilities - they make creating the XML file easier! I have also included an HTML file for developers in the Documentation folder.

Please be sure to read the Fresh Install file if you're installing this for the first time and the Upgrade file if you're upgrading from a previous version.

Please report bugs in this mod's support topic.

The link in your post here doesn't work. Fix that.

I am downloading the mod now. Just to test it out.

I just installed 2 of the sample mods you provided with it.

I found that all the edits weren't done the first time around.
Some seemed to be but then some weren't.
After about 3 times all the edits were done.

It does work, but sometimes it seems to be buggy.

If the file isn't writable it will give a warning (well that's a 'duh').
But then it still says the file edit was completed. I suggest checking if the file is writable before it performs the edits.
If it isn't writable, display a message saying that (so there are no ugly, annoying warning message).

but other than that:
NICE JOB! thumbsup.gif

I predict this mod will be as popular as the UMI. This thing is great! lol

That's actually because it has to match the line numbers passed and the line numbers in the file, and if an edit to a file is done before another edit to the same file that involves adding lines, they won't be the same and it won't do the edit. It seems buggy but there's really no other way to do it and still only do the selected edits.

And yeah, I'm working on some error messages for file permissions for the next release.

Thanks smile2.gif

No, it's a mod that will automatically perform file edits.

Why don't you have it check if there is a previous edit to be made and then if there is to add however many lines that edit added to the line numbers.
Would that work?
I don't really know PHP (and I probably never will know the IPB ins and outs, huge and confusing) so I'm not sure.

That seems like it would be possible. I'll try that out and if it works I'll put it in Alpha 6 or Beta 1, whichever I decide to call the next release tongue.gif

I think you have gone through enough alphas. lmfao.

Otherwise you will go from maybe ALPHA 6/7 right to a final release. Nah. Gotta get a BETA or 2 in there somewhere. wink.gif

Also, Just thought of it, how about something that will REMOVE those edits.
I installed a(n example) mod yesterday and didn't actually want it on there (just testing) and to get rid of it I had to personally remove those edits. Not fun. sad.gif
