I've installed it, and it semi works...
the image is there...but its always the image of the browser im using, and thats the image I get for all online users. I tried logging on with IE (cos I use opera most of the time and i thought it might be because of that or something) and it said taht all 3 people online were using IE. looking back into the still open opera window it says the same 3 people are online using opera. The same thing happens when using Netscape. any ideas? -------------------- |

Bebi: Didn't want to cause Outlaw the pain of opening a browser other than IE
Strabo: Made all the required modifications to the code and tables? It takes a while for the board to catch up as well, wtih half a user agent phpSniff may fail to detect the user agent or detect it incorrectly. If you think it's still working it out wrong, browse the ibf_sessions table in your mySQL Toolbox and look at the user agent strings - is one clearly Opera but showing as another browser for example? -------------------- |

Actully mine is for IPB 2.0 yours is 1.3, i know you wont release it for 2.0, so i'll release mine.
Works out just fine. I was done when i said i would do it by the way Cow. -------------------- I do not do create/support/upgrade modifications anymore.
I am not currently giving out permission to upgrade my modifications either. It's amazing how nobody reads signatures, I bet if I said i'd ban everyone who messaged me for support, they'd still message me and then complain when they got banned. |

awesome mod
nice warning message at the bottom of the installation instructions is there a way i can make an extra space between the icons and the username? i have a black background with red links, so it makes the username hard to decipher and can it show what browser guests are using? At the top of the page I get:
CODE Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /var/sites2/forum_mysterious/sources/phpsniff/phpSniff.class.php on line 22 Also I use firefox but I get the mozilla Icon (and everyone else); I tried IE and I get the right icon for that. Mysterioso
Thanks, seems like the version of sniff included only detects Firebird and Phoenix. Will update. superterrorizer I think you might need to wait a mo for the records to update. IE sends a user agent something like mozilla/4.0 (compatible; msie 6.0; windows nt 5.1) - if the UA is truncated before "msie", the chances are it'll be detected as Mozilla. -------------------- |

Updated file - give it a go. Update to the latest versions by uploading sources/phpSniff/phpsniff.class.php over existing version.

how long does it roughly take out of curiosity? does the entire database need to update, or will each user individually have to wait x amount of time before the correct browsers show for everyone?
im on firefox and it shows me as mozilla then when i switch to ie, everyone else shows up as ie also (visually, i never checked the sessions table while on ie) is there anyway to space the icons and username, or would it be easiest just to edit the space into the images? |

It'll just for each session to timeout and a new one to create. The default timeout is 15 minutes, so after each user has disappeared from the online list they should have the new UA string.
You can also execute "TRUNCATE TABLE ibf_sessions" or "DELETE FROM ibf_sessions" in the mySQL toolbox however this isn't recommended when you have many people online - the chances are IPB will automatically recreate the sessions when they access pages but it might cause a few problems or two such as posts being lost or whatever. If it's just you online then there should be no problem with this method. Easiest way is to edit the images, adding a space in the source causes an ugly underline between icon and username. -------------------- |
