Question:
How do i install a skin on Invisionboard version 2.0? Note:- Importing a skin in Invisionboard version 2.0.x is different than installing on a invisionboard v1.x. Also please note that i did this in Safe Mode! Also, please note that you should have all the correct folder permissions set. If you don't, it's advised you set them now. CHMOD these folders to 777 .../cache/ .../skin_cache/ .../style_images/ .../uploads/ If you don't know how to CHMOD to 777, visit this link: http://forums.invisionize.com/-t25956.html Answer: GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Import/Export > ################################################## Step 1. Extracting! After downloading your skin as a .zip you will need to use a program to extract this file type. The most popular programs to extract this file type include (in no particular order of my own personal preference): http://www.winzip.com/ http://www.win-rar.com/ http://www.winace.com/ If you use Microsoft Windows XP you will notice there is already a built in program built into the operating system to open this file type. To extract, you simply right click the file you downloaded and select the Extract option in the menu (there will be many options on where you want to extract, etc.) After you've extracted the file, you will have these files: ipb_images-1[1].xml ipb_skin-name[1].xml Make sure the two files extracted start with ipb_images- and ipb_skin-. Their extentions should be .xml or .xml.gz. Don't do anything to them yet! ################################################## Step 2. Importing the skin GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Import/Export > ![]() After selecting Skin Import/Export you will see the options to export at the top of the page and import at the bottom. In this FAQ you will be using the import function and not the export function (the export function deals with making your skin into those files you extracted so that other people can use your skin!). Once at this screen you will notice that you need to import the images seperately to the actual skin itself. Under the Import Skin Templates section you will see a Browse button (which you need to select). After selecting this button you will be prompted to search your computer. Find where you extracted ipb_skin-name[1].xml and select it (make sure it's the file that starts with ipb_skin- as you don't want to be importing your images in your skin area!). ![]() After you find your skin file and select it you will need to select the IMPORT SKIN XML. If you've successfully uploaded your skin, you will get this message on your screen in a box: QUOTE Skin Set Imported! (id: 0) Rebuilding Macros for set name... Done.... (Macro ID: 0)... Rebuilding CSS for set name... Rebuilding css file for css_0... Rebuilding HTML templates cache for set name... Done HTML templates rebuild... (id: 0) Rebuilding wrappers cache for set name... Done wrapper rebuild... (id: 0) Rebuilding the skin set ID relationship cache... etc. (id: 0 will be different and name will be different as i replaced id: 0 with a random value and name with the word name which is meant to symbolise the skin name). If you get a different message, don't fret if it says Skin Set Imported! (id: 0) as this means your skin has successfully imported! If you get an error, it's best you post in the v2.0 Skinning Support section. ################################################## Step 3. Importing the images This step is much like step 2 except you are using the other section and the other file (ipb_images-1[1].xml) GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Import/Export > ![]() Under the Import Skin Images section you will see a Browse button (which you need to select). After selecting this button you will be prompted to search your computer. Find where you extracted ipb_images-1[1].xml and select it (make sure it's the file that starts with ipb_images- as you don't want to be importing your skin in your images area!). ![]() After you find your skin file and select it you will need to select the IMPORT SKIN IMAGES. If you've successfully uploaded your images, you will get this message on your screen in a box: QUOTE Image set imported! If you get an error, it's best you post in the v2.0 Skinning Support section. ################################################## Step 4. Allocating the skin with the images GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Manager > ![]() After reaching this page, select the skin you just imported and select Edit Settings... ![]() You will be shown all the details of your skin. To allocate your newly imported graphics with your skin you will need to find the Image Options section. Select the images directory after finding this menu in the drop down menu. ![]() After changing the image set to the images you have just imported, select the Edit Skin Settings button towards the bottom of the page. ![]() If you've successfully updated your skin so that the images show on your skin, you will get this message on your screen in a box: QUOTE Skin Settings Updated Rebuilding Macros for set name... If you get a different message, don't fret if it says Skin Settings Updated as this means your skin has successfully updated your skin! If you get an error, it's best you post in the v2.0 Skinning Support section. ################################################## Step 5. Default, hidden? *Optional If you wish your new skin to be displayed on your main page on default (meaning that if you visit the site it will show your new skin automatically) you need to choose to make it default. If you wish to hide a skin from behing chosen (in the user control panel/skin chooser) you need to hide your skin. How to make a skin appear on default GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Manager > ![]() You shall see all the skins installed. If you wish to set a specific skin default you will need to select the third icon (next to export). ![]() How to hide your skin GOTO:- Admin CP > Skin & Templates > Skin Manager > ![]() You shall see all the skins installed. If you wish to set a specific skin default you will need to select the second icon (middle icon/the eye). So that it goes transparent. ![]() ################################################## Summary: Installing on Invisionboard v2.0 is a little different than installing on the lower invisionboard versions (1.x) but if you normally manually import on those lower versions it should be pretty similar Related links:- Skin Installation for Invision Power Board (IPB), Version 2.0 by Matthew -------------------- |
