So you want to join on us IRC do you?
Step one would be to get a IRC program, you could get HydraIRC or mIRC. If youre not on windows you could get Xchat. Or if you use mozilla you allready got chatzilla, but it sucks Okay, next step is to fill out the info stuff, in hydraIRC you do it like so: Options -> Prefs.. -> Make a new identity and fill out the fields. Then its pretty basic from there, type CODE /server irc.invisionize.com and when youre done with all the text typeCODE /j #invisionize Now you should be in the channel and ready to chat. Its about the same in mIRC, but i cant give specifik details about that, if anyone wants to write that part i'll add it! Channel modes: +q: Channel owner. +a: Admins or something, management got this. +o: Operators, kick, ban, etc. management and admins got this. +h: Halfoperators, staff got this, ability to kick+ban, and voice. +v: Voiced, dont do much but looks cool Rules: We do NOT allow: (big) scripts. Bots of any kind Flooding Spamming Porn Cloning For the rest of our rules, type /rules. and about the rest of the rules we got here. Now for how we chat: Lets start with telling that we do not provide support of any kind and that this is a chat were you can get to talk to staff and other members ang get to know them better. Also this is not a public server, so no, you cant have a private channel. The following channels are public: #lobby - Main channel, chat, fun etc. #commits - Official spam channel #phpcafe - For all your coding needs. #od -Online diskussions IRC channel. Hope to see you in there! This post has been edited by Pita: Jan 9 2007, 02:03 PM -------------------- |

FYI if you get an error saying the command /j doesn't work, the correct altertntive would be /join. - xChat also works on windows, not only linux.
If you would like to register your own nick so others can not use it type /nickserv register <password> <email> replacing <password> with the password you want to use for the account, and <email> with the email you want to use for the account. To then use this nick type /nickserv identify <password> replacing <password> with the password you registered with. More nickserv commands can be found out with /nickserv help. http://irchelp.org -------------------- |

We know have both irc quotes and irc stats.
You can find the irc stats here: http://invisionize.com/irc-stats/ and the quotes here: http://www.invisionize.com/index.php/a/quotes. I've also updated the first post including more of our public channels. -------------------- |

How to connect on startup in Hydra IRC:
Here is how : 1. Go to Options -> Prefs -> Command Profiles and add a new profile named OnStartup, to the right where you write the command put : /server server.name (such as irc.invisionize.com) 2. if you want to log in to a room and or login to your username simply add another command profile named servername_OnLoggedIn, and replace the servername with the server name (such as irc.invisionize.com, or what ever name your server your visiting has.) and on the right type in. /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password /join #roomname Hope that helped. Aaron, I've updated your post so others know what that short guide is for Hydra.
Also, xChat for Windows is shareware, so you may want to check out xChat-2, which is the free version of xChat. -------------------- |

This is a brief and simple guide explaining how to connect to the Invisionize irc server (on the Dilex network). In a few simple and easy steps, you will be connected and chatting. This tutorial is basic, and doesn't go into a lot of detail. You might want to search Google for a full tutorial on how to use IRC.
This is a revised edition of the original post by Skov Step.1:: Download an IRC program, such as HydraIRC or mIRC. Not a Windows user? Then the Xchat program should support your OS. The Linux build is free. The Windows build costs $30. To get a free version, use Xchat-2. Mozilla Firefox users can use the "ChatZilla" plugin. Step.2:: This is how to set up the IRC Program for HydraIRC Users. This is very brief, as I am not 100% sure how Hydra works as I dont use it. mIRC users skip to Step 3. Go to; Options -> Prefs.. -> Make a new identity and fill out the fields. Done? Continue on to part II. (II): CODE /server irc.invisionize.com You will know you are fully connected when the text in the status screen stops scrolling. So, next up, is to join the main network channel #lobby and the Invisionize channel #invisionize. CODE /j #lobby Now you should be in the channel #lobby and ready to chat. Next, lets join #invisionize - official IRC channel for Invisionize. CODE /j #invisionize Done? That's pretty much it! Welcome to the Dilex network on the Invisionize server! Step.3:: How to connect to IRC & join channels using mIRC! This step is very similar to HydraIRC. Once you have downloaded and installed mIRC, start it up. Fill in all the personal details on the screen called "mIRC Options" that pops-up. Your name is open to public viewing (all they have to do is enter the command /whois <nick here> to get it), your email address is not. Your "nickname" is the name you will use when chatting, however, if that's taken, then the client will use the alternative nickname you set in the next field (labelled alternative). Tip: Use your broadcasting name for your nick! All done? Lets move onto adding the Invisionize IRC Server. (II): In the same screen, using the navigation on the left, click "servers". Ill explain this part of the mIRC options before continuing with adding servers. mIRC comes with a list of IRC Networks (some dont work, some do.) that can be accessed by selecting them from the "IRC Network" drop down box. Underneath that box is the "IRC Sever" drop-down box. Each IRC Network has several servers connected to it, to ease server load etc. Its recommended that you connect to the IRC server located nearest to you - but that information isn't sometimes easy to find out! Still confused? Putting it simply: the IRC Network is the ROOT (or Hub) which has several "assistants" (aka Servers or Leafs), connected to it. Some people have a preference on what server they use when on a network. Understand? If not, no need to worry, you will learn as you get to know IRC more Click the "Add" button & enter the following information:- Description: Invisionize IRC Server (This can be any text you want and serves only as a description. Although, your better of giving a description of what server your adding) IRC Server: irc.invisionize.com (This is the IRC server address) Ports: 6667 (This is usually 6667. If the server allows connections on different ports, you can enter them all separated by commas eg. 6667,6668,6669 and mIRC will pick one randomly each time it connects to the server.) Group: Dilex (This allows you to group servers together when they are sorted with the Sort button. It is recommended you group the servers you add. The group name should be the network name.) Click "Add". Well done, you just added your first IRC Server! (III): Now its time to connect to the server. You should now be in the main mIRC Options dialog, with the description of the IRC Server appearing in the drop down box. If you add more servers later on and group them, clicking the drop down box will show them. Click the "Connect" button. The dialog will disappear and mIRC will connect you to the server. You will know you are fully connected when the text in the status screen stops scrolling. So, next up, is to join the main network channel #lobby and the Invisionize channel #invisionize. Tip: You can connect to servers without adding them to the server list. Just type in the main window (not the mIRC Options dialog); CODE /server <IRC Server Address Here> (IV): The final step is to join a channel. Once you are fully connected, type; CODE /j #lobby Now you should be in the channel #lobby and ready to chat. Next, lets join #invisionize - official IRC channel for Invisionize. CODE /j #invisionize Done? That's pretty much it! Welcome to the Dilex network on the Invisionize server! Step.4:: Not a step, just a quick guide. User modes on a channel: +q: Channel Owner status. +a: Admins / Management status. +o: Operators - Can kick, ban, change topic and channel modes etc. +h: HalfOP's - Similar to Operators, but with less control. +v: Voice - Channel regulars get this normally. If the channel is in "Mute" mode (+m) then you have to have this status (or any of the above) to speak in the channel. General channel modes: +m: Mute Mode. Only Admins/Operators & Voices can speak. +i: Channel is invite only. You need to be invited to join the channel! +l #: This sets how many people are allowed in the channel at any one time. # is replaced with a number. If the number is reached, users cant join unless someone leaves the channel or the number is made higher. To get an invite, an OP/Admin has to issue one using /invite <user>. +k <key>: Cant join the channel without the set key. To join a channel with a key set, type /j #channel <key> (without the brackets of course!). +s: Channel is "secret". It wont appear in the Channel List (/list). +n: "No External Messages". This means users in other channels cant send messages to the channel with +n set unless there active in the channel. Most channels have this set. +o: "Only OP's Set Topic". This means that only channel operators (OP's) can set the channel topic. Basic user commands/features: Network Rules: Type /rules in any window to see the network rules. Results are normally given in the "status" window. Network Channels: Type /list for a list of all network chat channels. Will appear in new window. Join a channel: Type /j (or /join if you get an error about "Unknown Command /j") #channel Leave a channel: Type /p (or /part if you get an error about "Unknown Command /p") #channel - If you wish to leave the channel you are currently active in, you dont need to place in the channel name. /p or /part will do fine. Cycle a channel (part and re-join): Type /cycle in the channel window you wish to "cycle". See 'Channel Modes': mIRC Users:- Double click the active screen, a new dialog will appear showing you channel modes such as topic etc. mIRC and HydraIRC have lots of nifty little features, but you can learn those as you explore the program, or by asking or searching Google With thanks to the original author; Skov. This tutorial has been revised for use at Invisionize and to cover mIRC in more detail then the original. Would like to correct you on the "Xchat-2 is the freeware version" thing.
"Xchat-2" as you are calling it (SilverX build) is WINDOWS only, and was created because the offical xchat windows build costs $30. You can still get the offical linux builds at xchat.org for free. -------------------- |

For those who are a bit afraid of using the desktop client, we (I'm a Network Administrator at Dilex) should have javachat up before the new year (that's my goal, at least).
