Hi guys,
Just to let you know I'm officially handing control of the SDK project to Pita. Pita has done a great job with SDK 1.5, and will be able to continue development. IPB SDK continues to be open source software, licensed under the GNU GPL. Thanks to everyone who helped out throughout the development process of SDK in past years. I've not got $200 to purchase a license so I'm unable to assist in the process. Good luck to you all and the project -------------------- |

Hey, Last time I checked IPB was a real Internet application and not a imaginary one, if that was the case, this post must be imaginary as well, eh? If you would bother to look around, especially at Cow's Blog, you might actually see some reason. Then again, why should you care weather someone "cries/whines like a 'Lil' baby", over something you obviously don't care about. -------------------- |

Charging was only the partial reason why I left, it's priciples. Me and thousands of others were told, promised IPB would be free forever. We helped out, developed skins, graphics, modifications for this great product. I reported many criticial bugs, I've helped out with some IPB support from time to time. I've talked to ex-staff, who have the same story. We feel cheated by IPB. This company has lied, and lived by riding on our back. IPS makes money by exploiting people. It lies to make profit. The income IPS currently has, is as far as I'm concerned bloody money, money earned by lieing and exploiting people. This isn't a company which has worked hard to make their money. These are a bunch of people driven by money, who have totally lost track of moral priciples. Yes, I like the product, but I'm not going to assist a company such as this. I don't agree with investing in companies not bound by morals. In the same way, I wouldn't invest in a clothing factory which employs hundreds of childrens and pays them stupidly low wages, even if I became a millionaire overnight. -------------------- |

I registered the board March this year before the changes. But now I regret because so many talented people like cowweb are driven away from IPB. I would have left if I could transfer the license, which is possible with vbulletin but not IPB. I understand you decision and wish I have read your blog earlier.

As I've stated, it's sad to see you go, cow. IPS certainly owes people like yourself a lot for the success of IPB. Hell, they owe all of us for the success of IPB. I've made the decision to stick with IPB because it's familiar grounds for me and my community's dev team.
cow is leaving, but Pita (and others) is here to keep the torch going. So far I think he's done good work. Had I the resources I'd pay him to work on it full-time, but as that's not possible I will take a look at his wishlist instead.. As far as IPS' politics in this matter. I was appaled at first, but some thinking made me take a much more lenient stance in the question. In my eyes they have lied, and they don't deserve people like me staying around. However, I can't look past the fact that they offer a product I feel is worth paying for. I'm severely torn, but I had to make a decision quickly; so, I'm staying. Modders are leaving, but new people will take their places and probably carry IPB to even greater heights. Still, I think it's important not to forget how IPS makes business, and keep that in mind in the future - and not let the community forget how we were, as I see it, duped. |
