Things change. How many people commit "til death do us part" on their weeding day and then end up getting divorced? Are they liars? I don't think so..I just think things change and sometimes those changes upset people. Do you people honestly believe that IPS had a big timeline that included lieing to get people hooked and then charging and laughing there way into some money??

A great shame Cow
I'm sure if you wanted to stay, a lot of people here would be glad to chip in for your own licence. |

In my opinion, this isn't a very good example, it stands on totaly diffrent grounds. Anywho, it's going a bit off topic, there's a few topics in General Chat about the IPS discussions. Guys, get over it, they have to make money somehow. Let me put it this way, if you owned IPS what would you rather do:
1. Spend 100s hours making the software and then giving it out for free. 2. Make over $30,000 dollars on some part-time internet software in less than a year. Think about it. I don't think Matt at IPS is an idiot, and I am sure he would want the money, instead of some stupid friendship with people over the web, that help make IPB better. I mean cowweb, no offense, but Matt at IPB probably doesn't even know your full name! Why would he care about you? This is the internet man! Wake UP! Err... they WERE making money anyway Lola, that's a flawed point. For them to be making enough money for at least Matt to do it full time then they were already making a lot. Last figures I heard before the termination of the trial version was 3000 paying customers in the last three months. If only a third decided to stick with IPB and paid merely for a year license then that's $65,000 in one quarter. If everyone paid $65, do the maths
I am unsure as to the validity of these figures but a fellow IPS customer said he'd bought a second license and noted that his purchase number was over 3000 higher than his first purchase. cow's points are valid though. If you read his blog entries you will see how many times IPS have lied. I'm a customer and I'm not impressed by their constant change of attitude. There are far too many people blindly backing up IPS without any of the facts save for loving the company they're customers of. They don't have to care about us internet folk, but if they keep crapping on customers and future-customers alike then they're not going to do too well. Anyway, I don't see how QUOTE I've not got $200 to purchase a license so I'm unable to assist in the process. is complaining. Yes, he doesn't care about me, or anyone else. We already know that. I quote you this, from Matt's blog. "Honestly, it's really time to start vetting those who can use the internet. " I think thats all I need to say:) SDK will live on at the end of the day, that's what matters:) This post has been edited by cowweb: Oct 1 2004, 10:06 AM -------------------- |

It was there - honest. Maybe that's disappeared with the thousands of posts from guests and customers alike on the IPB forums in the past few days?

darn... I'm working on a new site layout and I pop in after a long absence to see IPB being tight with their product, I regret switching to IPB a year ago now... since it's not free and open source...
Good call cowweb, but I hate to see you leave... the first time I came to this community the first mod I tried and only used was SDK... and you provided great support for it at that time too... -------------------- |

QUOTE(cowweb @ Sep 30 2004, 10:54 AM) Yes, I like the product, but I'm not going to assist a company such as this. I don't agree with investing in companies not bound by morals. In the same way, I wouldn't invest in a clothing factory which employs hundreds of childrens and pays them stupidly low wages, even if I became a millionaire overnight. In that case, you might want to stop using a Microsoft or Apple operating system, don't wear Nike shoes, don't drink Starbucks coffee, don't put Shell or Exxon gasoline in your car... you're supporting immoral companies! This is just silly. It's everywhere, man. But please know that there are more people severely angered by IPS's decision that you, myself included. The difference is, we aren't screwing over our fellow modding community by leaving because we're having a public temper-tantrum over IPS's decision. We're all still trying to work together to improve the overall system, free or not. No one said you have to support IPS. You could at least continue to support IZE. |

...however to continue to support IZE with 2,0 mods, you need to have a 2.0 board and that would be supporting IPS
A local board not accessible through the internet isn't apparently illegal according to an IPB post (probably since deleted) on their forums somewhere, so that's one way to continue modding, but I guess when someone doesn't like the way something's going and has ben doind mods FOR FREE I might add, that they're hardly screwing over the modding community. Cow's been giving to this community for years. I hardly see how by leaving he's screwing us over. -------------------- |
