I am 16 and I bought an IPB license when I was 15 (just had my parents use their credit card) so that's not something to base a case off of. Plus I know there are plenty of others like me.
I bought one when I was 14 with my own credit card tongue.gif

I didn't lie about my age, but they might have put the age requirement in some fine print that I didn't read instead of straight asking for my age. Plus, underage teens can also just use debit cards.

I love the IPB boards! They are so much more advanced, better organized, look so much better, and operate more efficiently than the other boards offered. When I decided to start a site, I demanded an IPB and would not accept anything else. I started with the free 1.3's offered on the free hosts, until I could afford the new one.

However, I find it somewhat of a ripoff to buy my IPB, then be told that every 6 months, I (in effect) have to "buy" it again. They call it a "license", but basically it's like buying a CD, and being told that you have to rebuy it every 6 months to be allowed to continue to play it. That's bull. I feel that I paid for the program; it's mine to use as long as I bloody well want to.

As for what other people do . . . when I was younger, I cared more about other people getting away with things I couldn't, ermm.gif but now I don't have the energy to bother with other people's business. LOL tongue.gif I don't want to get my knickers in a twist every time I see something I don't like; I don't want to be the tattle police, because it'll just make a person very miserable if they spend their time trying to make sure nobody else breaks the rules.

If they're legal, great. If they're not, meh . . .

Just relax; be zen . . . let God or karma take care of everyone else.

Nope, you can get a real credit card(not a debit card) at age 16, it just depends on the bank.

you dont have to renew it, it you want updates or support you would need to renew.

Its like your computer you pay for it, comes with so much support after the support contract runs out, they tell you its gonna cost you $x amount for 1 support issue.

Im glad this post has gotten a lot of replies. Since the topic was posted, I reported the board and a couple of days later (3-4 I forget exactly) they board was gone. It seems IPS took action, and the board is no longer in use.

"you dont have to renew it, it you want updates or support you would need to renew."
Ya, you do because without the update you have huge gaping security holes. Because the copy you have is filled with the bugs they made. Even Microsoft at least lets you get f*ing security updates for free.

I would love to but I have not develop it yet. It requires the knowledge of PHP and the <if=""></if> in the templates.

You could have it check if there is a product key entered in the Admin CP with this:
CODE
<if="$this->ipsclass->vars['ipb_reg_number']">
</if>

I don't require product keys. It's piece of code that can find aganist nulled boards.

Care to share that code so that I can use it in my future mods?

As I talked about in page two, I think there was a code post. Personally I find it to be pointless because it adds problems for legitimate users and the security is so weak illegitimate users can easily bypass.

Next, why should you care about your mod getting used on cracked forums?

Why should they have the privillage of addons when we have paid and they havn't. If I knew the code for it I would add it in all of my mods, I don't want someone who can't be bothered paying to use the mods I develop for legal customers...

This is kind of like the music DMCA argument. Well the crazy mad man version of this argument.

My guess is the majority of users legitimately would buy the software if they had the money to do so. It is kind of like most of the CG artists I know and photo shop. When people start out they don't have the money for $500+ art programs, but once they break in to the art and get money they typically buy the real deal.

Many company's realize this and developed crack programs. For example Microsoft gives away its programs to students for free, so later on they will go and buy the real thing.

This little blockade is not going to stop people from using mods. It only adds problems for legitimate users and the security is so weak illegitimate users can easily bypass. Why harm the majority of people that pay just to smite the small amount of users that have illegal copys?

That and every board that has a mod is basically and ad for you services.
